(1979-2017) 15% increase in the proportion of Pakistanis who hold the government responsible for inflation; while 20% cite public extravagance.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, , 15% increase in the proportion of Pakistanis who hold the government responsible for inflation in 38 years; while 20% cite public extravagance.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Who do you think is responsible for inflation?” In response to this question, 13% said traders/ industrialists are responsible for inflation, 57% said government, 20% said public extravagance, 8% said international reasons, while 2% said remittance/ money sent from abroad.

Trend Analysis:

The same question was asked in 1979. In response to this question in 1979, 32% said traders/ industrialists are responsible for inflation, 42% said government, 14% said public extravagance, 5% said international reasons, while 3% said remittance/ money sent from abroad and 4% did not wish to respond.

According to public opinion, in 38 years, there has been a 19% decrease in the proportion of Pakistanis who believe traders/ industrialists are responsible for inflation, a 15% increase in the proportion of Pakistanis who believe the government is responsible for inflation, a 6% increase in the proportion of Pakistanis who believe public extravagance is the reason for inflation and a 3% increase in the proportion of Pakistanis who believe international reasons account for inflation.
