According to a Gallup & Gilani Pakistan National Survey conducted in the year 1998 (19 years ago) respondents in urban Pakistan were asked, “Some people say that accidents occur due to bad luck/fate, while others maintain that precaution, if taken, can prevent mishaps. What do you think?” In response, 36% respondents said due to bad luck/fate, 64% said accidents happen due to negligence.

Comparative Picture: The question was asked again in 2017 to enable a concrete comparison. In 2017, 47% respondents said due to bad luck/fate, 53% said accidents happen due to negligence.

Over the past 19 years, there has been an 11% increase in the proportion of Pakistanis who feel that accidents happen due to bad luck/fate.

This press release has been made as part of the Gallup Pakistan History Project which aims to release historical empirical polling data to wider audience. The objective is to sustain and encourage empirical decision making in Pakistan.
