48% Pakistanis say that their Pakistani identity is most important to them, while 40% say that being Muslim is their most important identity.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 48% Pakistanis say that their Pakistani identity is most important to them, while 40% say that being Muslim is their most important identity.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Please think about the following identities and tell which of these identities is most important to you?” In response to this question, 48% said that being Pakistani was their most important identity, 40% said being Muslim, 6% said being Punjabi, Sindhi, Mohajir/Urdu speaking, Baloch, Pakhtun, Kashmiri, 4% said being a man or a woman, while 1% said being a citizen of the world. 1% did not respond.
