According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 58% of Pakistanis believe that this yearr’s budget is worse than last year’s. 71% claim it will cause the items of their daily use to become more expensive.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked. In your opinion, is this year’s budget better, worse or the same as last year’s? 17% said better, 58% said worse and 24% said the same. However, 1% chose not to respond. A comparison of data across provinces produced interesting results. Residents of Balochistan (83%), KPK (72%) and Sindh (74%) came across as considerably more pessimistic about the new budget as compared to respondents from Punjab (45%).

Respondents were further asked. Will the new budget cause the items of your daily use to become expensive, cheaper or leave their prices unchanged? To this, 71% responded expensive, 12% said cheaper and 13% said the prices would remain unchanged. However, 3% chose not to respond.
