According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, 79% Pakistanis cite water pollution to be a critical problem (very or somewhat) in their locality, followed by 78% who say excessive land development.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “How much, if at all is each of the following a problem in your local community?” In response to this question, for air pollution, 43% said it is a very critical problem in their local community, 31% said somewhat critical, 20% said less critical and 6% said not at all critical. For water pollution of lakes, rivers and streams, 45% said it is a very critical problem in their local community, 34% said somewhat critical, 18% said less critical and 3% said not at all critical. For excessive land development, 46% said it is a very critical problem in their local community, 32% said somewhat critical, 17% said less critical and 5% said not at all critical.
