According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 98% Pakistanis consider religion an important factor in their life.
A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked, Please tell us, how important is religion in your life? Responding to this, 90% said very important, 8% said somewhat important and 1% said not important. A further 1% said religion was not important at all. A similar survey was conducted in other countries. In China, 3% of the respondents considered religion to be very important whereas 8% said it was somewhat important. 30% thought religion was not important and 50% said it was not important at all. 9% did not respond. In Turkey, 68% said religion is very important compared to 25% who said it is somewhat important and 4% who opined that it is not very important. 3% said not important at all. When the same question was asked in the United States, 40% believed that religion was very important, 28% said it was somewhat important while 18% said it was not very important. 13% considered it to be not important at all and 1% did not respond.
