According to a recent survey by Gallup Pakistan, the inclination to educate children in English medium schools has increased five folds during the last fifteen years. The survey was conducted in the urban areas of all the four provinces and the respondents were asked: “Do you prefer to educate your children in Urdu or English medium of instruction”? Fifty-six percent (56%) of the respondents showed their preference for English, while 34% showed preference for Urdu, 4% for Sindhi and the remaining 6% gave miscellaneous responses.
The survey was conducted by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International among a representative sample of more than 1000 men and women in the major urban areas of the country.
