Crime in Pakistan: In 19 years, 15% decrease in the proportion of urban Pakistanis who claim they or their acquaintances have been robbed in the past year.


According to a Gallup & Gilani Pakistan National Survey conducted in the year 1998 (19 years ago) respondents in urban Pakistan were asked, “God Forbid, were you or any of your relatives victims to the following experiences in the past year: Theft/Robbery?” In response, 31% said yes, 61% said no and 8% did not know or wish to respond.

Comparative Picture: The question was asked again in 2017 to enable a concrete comparison. In 2017, 16% said yes, 69% said no and 15% did not know or wish to respond.

This press release has been made as part of the Gallup Pakistan History Project which aims to release historical empirical polling data to wider audience. The objective is to sustain and encourage empirical decision making in Pakistan.
