Every 1 in 5 Pakistani woman claims to have experienced inappropriate gazes by men in public that made her uneasy. Twice as many urban than rural women have been victims to such form of harassment.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, every 1 in 5 Pakistani woman claims to have experienced inappropriate gazes by men in public that made her uneasy. Twice as many urban than rural women have been victims to such form of harassment.

A nationally representative sample of women from across the four provinces was asked, “Have you ever experienced the following; You are in public and feel awkward because of staring by men” In response to this question, 21% said yes and 79% said no.

Rural Urban Breakdown:

In rural areas, 15% of the respondents said yes and 85% said no. In urban areas, 30% said yes and 70% said no. Comparing the two regions, 15% more urban than rural women say they have felt awkward because of staring by men.
