Impact of corruption, bribery and dishonesty on business world: 8% increase in the proportion of Pakistanis who believe corruption, bribery and dishonesty have no impact on business world over the past 6 years.

According to a Gallup Pakistan National Survey conducted in the year 2010 (6 years ago) respondents were asked, “In your opinion, to what extent does corruption, bribery and dishonesty impact the following aspects of your life [Business World]?” In response to this question, 51% said corruption, bribery and dishonesty have a great impact on business world, 24% said medium impact, 18% said some impact, while 2% said no impact at all. 5% did not know or did not wish to respond.

Comparative Picture: The question was asked again in 2016 to enable a concrete comparison. In 2016, 29% said corruption, bribery and dishonesty have a great impact business world, 24% said medium impact, 27% said some impact, while 10% said no impact at all. 10% did not know or did not wish to respond.

According to public opinion, there has been a 22% decrease in the proportion of Pakistanis who believe corruption, bribery and dishonesty have a great impact on business world, a 9% increase in the proportion of Pakistanis who believe corruption, bribery and dishonesty have some impact on business world and an 8% increase in the proportion of Pakistanis who believe corruption, bribery and dishonesty have no impact at all on business world.

This press release has been made as part of the Gallup Pakistan History Project which aims to release historical empirical polling data to wider audiences. The objective is to sustain and encourage empirical decision making in Pakistan.
