Majority Pakistanis are optimistic that terrorism, killing and extremism will reduce in 2017 and education and health sector will improve.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, majority Pakistanis are optimistic that terrorism, killing and extremism will reduce in 2017 and education and health sector will improve.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Please think about the New Year 2017 and please tell to what extent are the following likely to occur?” In response to this question, 23% said there is a very high possibility of reduction in terrorism, killing and extremism in 2017, 36% said possible to some extent, 23% said very low possibility, 13% said not possible at all and 5% did not know. For talks between India and Pakistan on Kashmir issue in 2017, 15% said there is a very high possibility, 34% said possible to some extent, 26% said very low possibility, 20% said not at all possible and 5% did not know. For return of international cricket in Pakistan in 2017, 16% said there is a very high possibility, 28% said possible to some extent, 27% said very low possibility, 20% said not at all possible and 9% did not know. For improvement in electricity situation in 2017, 21% said there is a very high possibility, 27% said possible to some extent, 22% said very low possibility, 25% said not at all possible and 5% did not know. For improvement in standard of education in 2017, 22% said there is a very high possibility, 34% said possible to some extent, 23% said very low possibility, 18% said not at all possible and 3% did not know. For improvement in the health sector in 2017, 19% said there is a very high possibility, 33% said possible to some extent, 26% said very low possibility, 18% said not at all possible and 4% did not know. For more responsible media coverage in 2017, 17% said there is a very high possibility, 28% said possible to some extent, 27% said very low possibility, 22% said not at all possible and 6% did not know. For reduction in the percentage of poverty in Pakistan in 2017, 13% said there is a very high possibility, 29% said possible to some extent, 27% said very low possibility, 26% said not at all possible and 5% did not know. For improvement in religious and social harmony in 2017, 13% said there is a very high possibility, 32% said possible to some extent, 32% said very low possibility, 18% said not at all possible and 5% did not know.
