More than half Pakistanis (57%) cite lack of references (sifarish) as the primary reason for unemployment in the country.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, more than half Pakistanis (57%) cite lack of references (sifarish) as the primary reason for unemployment in the country.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “In your opinion what are the general reasons for unemployment / inability to get a job in our society?” In response, 57% said lack of references (sifarish) was the cause of unemployment, 55% attributed it to lack of national resources, 40% said growing population, 33% said economic recession, and only 1% said corruption.
