Only 21% Pakistanis say they have confidence in the police; 77% say the opposite. GILANI POLL/GALLUP PAKISTAN

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, only 21% Pakistanis say they have confidence in the police; 77% say the opposite.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked, Could you tell me how much confidence you have in the following institutions: the Police? Responding to this, 6% said they had a great deal of confidence in the police, 15% said quite a lot of confidence, 30% replied not very much and 47% said none at all. 2% did not respond.

A similar survey was conducted in China where 18% said they had a great deal of confidence in the police, 49% said quite a lot of confidence and 21% said not very much. 3% said none at all and 9% did not respond. When the same question was asked in New Zealand, 28% said they had a great deal of confidence in the police, 51% said quite a lot of confidence, 14% replied not very much and 3% said none at all. 4% did not respond. In the United States, 17% set a great deal of confidence in the institution, 52% said quite a lot and 24% said not very much. 6% of the respondents said none at all and 1% did not respond.
