Panama Leaks and Pakistani Public Opinion – Special Report by Gallup Pakistan

(Islamabad) : Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International conducted a Nationally Representative Survey of Adult Pakistanis on the Perceptions regarding the Panama Leaks Case. The survey was conducted with a representative sample of 1865 men and women from urban and rural Pakistan and spread over all four provinces. The survey was conducted during 3rd April to 10th April, 2017. The Error Margin for the survey is +3-5% at 95% confidence level.
Following are the key findings from the survey :
1. Expectations from the Panama Leaks Verdict
Close to majority (48%) Pakistanis believe that the Panama Leaks judgement would come against Nawaz Sharif (24%) or his family (24%).
Only  21% Pakistanis expect the results to be in favour of Nawaz Sharif.
However, 1 in 3 Pakistani’s (31%) believe that the Court decision would be unclear / ambiguous and there would be no clear winners.
2. Imran Khan to win even in case decision comes in favour of Nawaz Sharif
Majority Pakistanis (57%) agree with the statement that even if the decision comes in favour of Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan has had a political and moral victory by raising the issue of corruption publicly and getting an audience with the highest court of the country.
3. Possibility of PM’s Disqualification in wake of Panama Judgement : Apathy anticipated from 41% Adult Men and Women
On being presented the hypothetical situation of PM being Disqualified by the Supreme Court in wake of Panama Leaks Case Judgement and being asked what would their sentiment be, 41% Pakistanis said that they would not be happy or sad showing a general lack of clear emotions on the issue.
