Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious childhood disease caused by Polio Virus. It can lead to paralysis resulting in lifelong disability or even death. It can be prevented by an effective vaccine. The world has been trying hard to eradicate polio and it has led to a tremendous fall in Polio cases over the last decades. At present, Polio is endemic in only two countries namely Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Gallup Pakistan and Gilani Research Foundation have been conducting public opinion polls on issues of public concern over the last two decades. A multistage stratified random household sample of 1200-2000 adults from urban and rural areas of Pakistan were asked multiple questions about polio program and immunization through face to face interviews over this time. This report gives findings from some of those surveys.
