Unmet Health Needs: 1 in 5 Pakistanis (24%) say they or their household members were unable to avail professional medical help despite wanting to do so mainly because of financial and logistical problems.

According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, 1 in 5 Pakistanis (24%) say they or their household members were unable to avail professional medical help despite wanting to do so mainly because of financial and logistical problems.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Has there ever been a time during the past one year when a person from your family felt the need to go to the doctor but could not get to the doctor?”  In response to this question, 24% said yes there was a time when their family felt the need to go to the doctor but could not get to the doctor and 76% said no.

Those who answered in the affirmative were further asked, “What was the reason?” In response, 58% said lack of finances and 42% said the doctor was too far away.
