Between 2018-2019, 15% rise in the proportion of Pakistanis who say they never exercise (Gallup & Gilani Pakistan Poll)

In a Gallup & Gilani Pakistan National Survey conducted in the year 2018, respondents were asked “How often do you exercise?” In response 37% said never, 18% occasionally, 22% said sometimes, 12% said fairly often and 4% said very often.

Comparative Picture: This question was asked again in 2019 to enable a comparison to be made across the years. In 2019, 52% said never, 16% occasionally, 12% said sometimes, 10% said fairly often and 10% said very often.

Trend Analysis: In 2019, more than half Pakistanis reported never exercising while in 2018, 37% reported never exercising. Globally, on average 37% respondents reported exercising very often/often which is almost double the number reported by Pakistanis.

This press release has been made as part of the Gallup Pakistan History Project which aims to release historical empirical polling data to wider audiences. The objective is to sustain and encourage empirical decision making in Pakistan.
